There have been a lot of questions around Rematch’s pricing and monetization on Discord and Reddit and we wanted to share more information on these topics. This post will cover the topics of Pricing, In-Game Monetization, Pass & Editions.
Pricing Model & Monetization
Rematch aims to reflect what is the essence of football - a game of observation, positioning, and movement - it's a beautiful game, and it's a simple one: after all, it's only just humans chasing a ball. Like football, Rematch is a simple game - but like football, if you enjoy it, you can play it for a very, very long time - and still find within it challenge and depth, subtleties and surprises. We think this replayability makes it worth purchasing a ticket for entry.
Wherever you are, if you like the game, we think you will find amazing value for your money - because there is such replayability, and because there is no other game like it. Rematch is also a game we intend to keep working on for as long as possible: balancing, polishing, adding new game modes, new features, new maps, new outfits... we have plenty of ideas, and we'll be analyzing all feedback from our community to make sure we're going in the right direction.
To support these efforts, and to keep financing the online infrastructure required for an action game like Rematch, the game will also feature in-game monetization: players can purchase Quants, and use them to unlock the Captain Pass, or to buy items in the Store. The Captain Pass allows you to unlock additional cosmetic content progressively through the three chapters of each Season (there will also be plenty of cool stuff to unlock for free in each chapter). Importantly, if you complete all tiers of a Season, you will have gained enough Quants to buy the next season's Captain pass - so if you keep playing, you will only have to purchase a Captain Pass once. In the Store, players can unlock other optional items, skins, maps and more - some of these items can also be purchased with Blocks, which can be earned simply by playing the game.
Rematch follows a structure many players are already familiar with: a low entry price, with optional, fully cosmetic purchases for those who want additional customization options. No pay-to-win, no lootboxes or hidden systems — it’s a transparent approach that we believe is best to support a strong community, in the long term.
Free Pass and Captain Pass

We’ve mentioned the Free Pass, the Captain Pass, and the associated Upgrade Ticket. So how does it all work, and what do they entail?
The Free Pass is the free version of our Pass, whereas the Captain Pass is the premium version. You can choose to spend a Captain Pass Upgrade Ticket to upgrade your Free Pass into a Captain Pass. Upgrade Tickets can be held onto for later use, in case you don’t feel like getting the current Captain Pass and would rather wait for a future Pass.
The Pass rewards are spread across 100 Tiers, with each Tier offering 1 reward in the form of:
An exclusive cosmetic item
Blocks, Rematch’s virtual in-game currency used in the in-game Store to purchase most available items.
Quants, the premium in-game currency used to purchase Upgrade Tickets and items from the in-game Store, including items purchasable exclusively with Quants.
Pass Mechanics

A Pass is split into 3 Chapters themed after the Season it releases in. The first Chapter becomes available immediately to everyone as soon as a Season and its associated Pass launch. The second Chapter releases 1 month later, then the third and final chapter after another month. These timings are tentative and may change during development.
Each Chapter features branching paths. While all paths lead to the same final reward, it offers players some agency in which rewards they would like to prioritize. Making progress on one path does not lock you out of another path, and it is possible to unlock all rewards included in a Chapter.
Each path consists of Slots, and a Slot is made up of 3, 4 or 5 Tiers (the very same Tiers we talked about earlier). If you are progressing through the Free Pass, Captain Pass-exclusive Tiers will be indicated by a golden lock icon. Players have to complete a Slot before moving onto the next, eventually reaching the final Slot and the final rewards of the Chapter.
Earning enough EXP will award you with a Tier Token that you can spend on a Slot to earn a Tier and unlock its corresponding reward. This allows you to play and accumulate Tokens without having to worry about your play session getting interrupted by the Pass, and spend your Tier Tokens at your leisure. Tier Tokens can still be earned even if you have already obtained all rewards from all currently available Chapters. Unlocking all Tiers in the Captain Pass will reward players with enough Quants to purchase an Upgrade Ticket for the next Captain Pass - essentially, engaged players only have to purchase the Captain Pass once!
The In-Game Store

The Store is where you can purchase most premium cosmetic items to customize your character and arenas. Some items will be sold individually and others as part of thematic bundles. You will also be able to access all purchasable items directly through your collection interface.
Low and medium quality tier items can be purchased with either Blocks or Quants.
Higher quality tiers items, however, can only be purchased with Quants.
As mentioned before, players can earn Quants through the Pass, but they can also directly purchase fixed amounts of Quants for real world currency.
Game Editions

At its core, Rematch is about fair play — and that applies to our monetization too. All customization is purely cosmetic and fully optional. We've kept things simple and transparent and we have focused on the basics : offering a fair, generous model that respects players' time and money. As an independent studio, live revenue will help us keep supporting Rematch over time — and keep building ambitious games we believe in.
