Nations Cup 2067 & Roadmap Q&A

This one has been long overdue, but we’ve finally taken some time to answer some of your questions about Nations Cup 2067, upcoming features, matchmaking, progression, and more! Here's a closer look at some of the topics you've been asking about.
How did you pick the list of countries participating in the Nations Cup 2067 event?
We selected the participating countries based on three main factors: where Rematch has some of its most active player communities, each nation’s connection to international football, and overall regional representation.
Our goal was to make the event feel both relevant to our current players and truly international, with countries from different regions and continents represented in the competition.
Why do only 4 nations have premium kits?
Our initial goal was to create premium national kits for every country in the Nations Cup.
We explored licensing options, but official national team kits were not available due to existing exclusive rights. We then moved toward creating original kits, but producing premium versions for every nation would have required much more time, coordination, and production resources than we could afford.
So we focused on premium kits for four of our largest player communities, while making sure every participating nation still receives its own unique color palette and themed customization rewards.
How does the new automated reporting system work?
The new system is built around hidden Honor and Toxicity ratings.
Your Honor level increases when you maintain a positive standing in the game and decreases if you misuse the reporting system or engage in negative behavior. Your Honor level also affects how much weight your reports carry when reviewing player behavior.
At the same time, reports received from other players contribute to your Toxicity level. If that level becomes too high, you'll first receive a warning. If your behavior doesn't improve, the next step is a suspension.
The good news is that simply completing matches without being reported helps lower your Toxicity level over time.
Can you elaborate on the additional communication options planned for Season 6?
We're planning to introduce end-of-match quick chat options so players can communicate after the end of a match.
We'd also like to expand the existing in-match quick chat system, and we know this is something you have repeatedly asked about. One challenge we face is that our quick chats are voiced, which means adding new options requires recording additional voice lines. That being said, tactical callouts are vital for communication, and we’ll do our best to add more of these in Season 6!
Why does Season 5 only last one month?
Season 5 will feature a very special collaboration!
We aren't ready to share details just yet, but we want the season to feel like a concentrated, high-energy event rather than a longer traditional season. We're excited to reveal more as we get closer to the release date. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the Nations Cup 2067 event!
What is the Player Contract feature?
Our current progression system, which is largely tied to account level, is fairly limited.
Player Contracts are our next step toward making progression more engaging. The system will introduce badges and contracts that players can complete to earn rewards and progress through new objectives.
Our goal is to create a progression experience that gives players more meaningful milestones to work toward.
What happened to the Clubs system?
The Clubs feature is 100% still part of our plans!
However, considering the scope of the feature, we decided it deserved additional development time. Rather than rushing it, we've chosen to postpone Clubs until next year so we can deliver the best possible version of the system.
Are there any matchmaking updates planned? Have you considered role queues, or separate solo/duo and full squad queues?
We have already implemented a number of changes in Season 4 with adjusted RP gains and losses, which should let players reach their appropriate rank faster before stabilizing.
A recent, undocumented update (to avoid any placebo effect on the players’ side) to our backend has allowed us to bring the average player MMR 15% closer within a match to reduce skill level disparities.
There are several other improvements we intend to make down the line, including higher quality matchmaking by making progressive small changes in the background, and experiment with changes that should allow newcomers to be matched more often against other new players to smooth out their first experience. And even further changes will come later as we implement the new Legend League!
We're still actively collecting data following our recent matchmaking changes and will continue making adjustments where necessary. As always, community feedback remains an important part of that process.
We don't currently plan to introduce role queues. That said, we're considering allowing players to select a preferred starting position as goalkeeper.
Are there any plans for new uses for Blocks (the blue currency)?
Yes. We have several ideas we're currently exploring.
Some possibilities include:
Bundles that can be purchased using either Blocks or Quants.
Blocks-exclusive vanity items. For instance, a new high-value bundle, currently targeted for Season 6, that would be purchased entirely with Blocks.
The possibility of purchasing older Captain Pass items with Blocks.
The last idea is still in the brainstorming phase, but we're looking at different ways to make accumulated Blocks more valuable over time.
Do you intend to add in-game leaderboards and automated tournaments?
In-game leaderboards are currently planned for Season 6. We're also exploring exclusive seasonal rewards that would be given out to the highest-ranked players at the end of each season.
As for automated tournaments, that's also something we'd like to implement. We want competitive players to have more opportunities to regularly compete for higher stakes, which aligns closely with our vision for Rematch as a competitive game. We don’t currently have an ETA for this feature and it still needs to be designed, but we are definitely considering it.
Are there plans to add more ranked game modes or new exclusive game modes?
Every new queue splits the player population, which can negatively impact both matchmaking quality and queue times. For now, we'd prefer to keep the player base concentrated in existing playlists to maintain a healthy matchmaking experience.
That doesn't mean additional ranked modes are impossible in the future, but they aren't currently planned.
On the other hand, we do plan to continue experimenting with limited-time game modes. Following modes like 1v1 and Fireball, a brand-new game mode is already in development and will arrive as part of Season 5's special event!
